3 Simple Health Tips for Better Digestion, Sleep, and Hydration
/Today I’d like to share with you 3 simple health tips that have helped me a lot. No one teaches you these in school, but they are fantastic ways to build mindfulness and stress relief into your day!
HUM for 10 seconds before taking your first bite of food. This brings a sense of mindfulness to your eating routine and also helps with digestion. Humming stimulates the vagus nerve, activating the parasympathetic nervous system, which is your “rest and digest” state. I find that humming before eating also helps me remember to slow down and enjoy my food. Sounds like a funny thing to do, but it really works!
Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day. Sleep schedules help our circadian rhythm. I like to modify my times slightly depending on the season. Right now (summer time), it's a 9:30 pm bedtime for me, then wake up around 5:00 am or 5:30 am. In the winter, it's more like a 10:00 pm bedtime with 7:00 am wake up time. I often hear the recommendation to get 7-8 hours of sleep but I personally thrive on more like 8-9+ hours. I think it's important to listen to your body and err on the side of extra sleep rather than not enough.
Add electrolytes to your water. Look for brands with trace minerals and that don't have citric acid or seed oils, or go DIY with a squeeze of lemon juice and some pink salt added to your water.
