Working Out and Practicing Yoga from Home
/Creating your own exercise routine from home can be a great way to boost your physical and mental health.
Sometimes it just isn’t feasible to go to a yoga studio or gym on a frequent basis, whether you have a busy schedule, need childcare, don’t have it in your budget, or maybe you are not enjoying the atmosphere at the local places available.
Here are 4 considerations for dialing in your routine from home.
Find an app or YouTube channel that you love
There are so many amazing fitness, yoga, and wellness apps and YouTube channels nowadays. Find one that really resonates with you and that you are excited to watch. Something that has you hooked and wanting to come back for more!
Schedule it
Create a clear plan for when you’re going to do your workouts or yoga practice. Put it on your calendar and create a buffer of space before and after— throw in some stretching, breathing or meditation to make it a full experience of self-care!
Remember the power of 20 minutes
It can be challenging to start with long workouts. I highly suggest trying 20 minutes a day and seeing how that feels. If you can do that 4-5 times a week consistently, you will see changes.
Consider your nutrition, too
How are your digestion, hydration, mood, and energy levels feeling these days? How is your relationship to food? Remember that how you’re nourishing yourself is important, too.
You might consider reflecting on portion size, adding in healthy snacks like a nutrition bar before or after a workout, or adding more greens to your plate. Keep it simple if you are making changes that you want to last.
Let go of expectations and show up today
Consistency can be a struggle when you are starting a new habit. Have a plan for the days when you fail so that you don’t get stuck and stop your workouts altogether.
Do your best and keep showing up for yourself and reflecting on what’s working, and you’ll go far!
