Start your day with an energizing yoga practice.

Yoga can give you an invigorating start to the morning, waking you up and preparing you for the day ahead. Here are a few steps you can take to come up with a great morning yoga routine.

Rise Early

Some morning yoga is the perfect way to engage your body for the day ahead. It stretches you out, shakes off your sleep and gets you ready to go. Set your alarm early enough so that you aren’t rushed.

Prepare Your Space

Unless you’re heading to an early morning yoga class, chances are you’ll be practicing your yoga at home, so make sure the space is well prepared. Create an open and clear space, removing any clutter or unnecessary belongings. Roll your mat out and open up the blinds or curtains to let in some natural light. This will make for the perfect environment to get practicing.

Eat a Small Snack Before Starting

Practicing yoga on a full stomach can often be uncomfortable. Bloating can make stretching or holding positions a little more difficult than usual and you may even feel gassy. So, instead of eating your full breakfast before your yoga practice, you might want to eat a small snack instead. This will give you sufficient strength to stretch, bend and hold the poses you want to practice. A breakfast smoothie could be a great option, or a bowl of fresh fruit. If you’re looking for something that will give you longer lasting energy, a handful of nuts and seeds will work, or you might even want to consider a small bowl of oatmeal. You can then have your full, proper breakfast once you’ve finished your yoga.

Practice Sun Salutations

Sun salutations are always a good place to start your day. This sequence of asanas is calming, graceful and flows well. Sun salutations are energizing and will help to ease you into the day. They are practiced in many styles of yoga and are great for beginners and advanced practitioners alike.

Start your morning with yoga and see how it feels to set the tone for the day.
