Yoga, Health and Wellness Books to Create Balance in Your Life
/I’ve been adding some incredible new books to my collection and am very excited to share these with you guys! Whether you are just starting a yoga practice, you need new ideas, or you’re wanting to incorporate more meditation into your experience, these are some awesome books to check out.
Beautifully Brave: An Unconventional Guide to Owning Your Worth, Cultivating Self-Love, and Standing in Your Power by Sarah Pendrick
What a gorgeous book! I love the thoughtfulness of each chapter and how Sarah is able to guide the reader through difficult topics gracefully. The content is really refreshing and includes what she calls “sacred love notes” as well as “bravery mantras” and self-love prompts. If you are struggling to be at peace with yourself, this book can help!
The Good Morning Journal: 5-Minute Guided Reflections to Start Your Day with Inspiration, Purpose and a Plan by Molly Burford
This is a fun, beautiful, and useful book. I love the simple concept and layout— essentially a checklist/inventory of how you’re feeling and how you want to plan your day. I would recommend this one to anyone struggling to establish a consistent morning routine. The structure and repetition of the content helps you stay on track and meet your goals.
Midnight Meditations: Calm Your Thoughts, Still Your Body and Return to Sleep by Courtney E. Ackerman
A great book for anyone struggling with sleep! Each page is a simple, 5-minute meditation you can try and topics include breathwork like box breathing, gratitude meditations, and visualization techniques. You could use this book before bed and get a good routine going to help you wind down, calm your mind, and prepare to rest.
Yoga for Women: 45 Sequences for Physical, Emotional and Spiritual Wellbeing by Tatiana Elle
I love this unique, approachable book. Before seeing it I had never really come across a book that’s geared specifically for women and I think Tatiana did a fantastic job compiling these different sequences in a way that yoginis of all levels could use. The book includes poses and simple illustrations for a series of different yoga sequences and practices focused on topics such as body image, self-esteem, stress reduction, relationships, menstrual health, menopause, libido and other hormonal and emotional issues that many women face.
I personally will be using this book for my practice and also incorporating some of this information and these sequences into my classes.
The Pain Relief Secret: How to Retrain Your Nervous System, Heal Your Body and Overcome Chronic Pain by Sarah Warren
If you suffer from chronic pain, you need to read this book!! Even if you don’t suffer from chronic pain, read this book! :)
The book description says it best:
“Here’s the shocking truth: The vast majority of the pain that plagues our aging bodies is self-inflicted. It’s caused by the way we use our bodies every day—the way we sit, the way we stand, the way we walk and run. But with simple exercises, anybody can learn to heal their chronic musculoskeletal pain, and prevent future pain, injury, and joint problems from developing.”
The Pain Relief Secret will help you see your pain differently and help you realize that you have power over it; you control your healing process.
A great resource for holistic health practitioners, chiropractors, physical therapists, energy workers, massage therapists and those who do somatics. And a MUST read for anyone who is sick of being in pain all the time and doesn’t want to resort to something like surgery or medication. Highly recommend.
Strong, Calm and Free: A Modern Guide to Yoga, Meditation and Mindful Living by Nicola Jane Hobbs (Author) and Ann-Kathrin Hochmuth (Illustrator)
I’ve really been enjoying this book. Strong, Calm and Free includes a 10-week plan of yoga routines and simple meditations, as well as tips and tools for mindful living, reducing stress, and carving out time for self-care. The sequences feature over 50 yoga poses and 20 easy-to-follow sequences to lay a strong foundation for a blossoming practice. If you’re new to yoga, new to teaching, or have been practicing a while and want to infuse some new flows into your practice, try this book.
Within My Illusions by Jennifer Bloom
This book is, as Jennifer calls it, a “poetic journey of discovery.” This would be a great book to read during quiet hours spent in reflection or self-care time, maybe during a hot bath soak or an afternoon laying in a hammock or under a tree. In her second collection of poetry, the poet, singer, scholar and mother explores the dynamic between the inner and outer world, spiritual awakening, and navigating moments of change and uncertainty. The poems are a great read even for those who are not super familiar with poetry but who are interested in writing that helps you feel from the heart space.
I’m curious— what books are you guys reading this summer?
Basic and important yoga sequences for teachers to learn so that they can guide students safely through a class.
