Resources for New Yoga Teachers
Your favorite local teachers. I can’t recommend this highly enough: find a mentor teacher who you can turn to with questions, concerns, and who will support you and hold you accountable as you learn and grow. Having a real, live, compassionate fellow teacher is such a great way to support your ongoing learning as you begin to teach.
Your students who are ‘regulars.’ Observe your students carefully during class and they will teach you so much about how to become an incredible teacher! Notice what words they respond to, what cues actually land, how they engage with you before and after class. Be mindful of asking for feedback when you feel ready to receive it, and be open and willing to listen.
Books, blogs, websites and YouTube channels you resonate with. There is so much yoga content out in the world nowadays… instead of worrying about absorbing all of it or comparing yourself to the most popular teacher, just find something that works for you and that you consistently feel drawn to. What is it about the teaching that you enjoy or that is memorable and impactful to you? How can you allow that experience to inspire you and give you the gift of self care so that you can pour from an empty cup? Remember, your practice is SO important as you step into your role as a teacher. Keep nourishing yourself.
