Yoga Goals
/I’m curious: are you working toward any goals in your yoga practice right now?
Throughout my 10+ years of practicing, I’ve come in and out of the process of setting goals and working toward them.
Here are some goals I’ve found to be helpful:
Practicing for a specific amount of time per session (for example, 30 minutes or 60 minutes)
Practicing a specific number of times per week (for example, 3 days, M/W/F)
Trying a class at a studio I’ve never been to before (and meeting a new teacher)
Trying a style of yoga I’m not familiar with (Kundalini and Ashtanga rocked my world)
Working on a particular pose (Hanumanasana and Handstand have remained on the list for quite some time ;)
Tracking progress helps, too.
I usually keep a sticky note on the fridge or bathroom mirror and check off the days when I’ve met my goal. I’ll also write in my journal to explore the reasons behind why I’m taking on the goal, and what I’m learning throughout the process.
Having a goal can be motivating.
I also think it’s nice to take time where you’re not specifically working toward a goal.
This brings freedom and non-attachment to the practice.
I’d love to hear — are you working toward any specific goals in your yoga practice right now?
I’m curious — do you have any goals right now? Do you need support as you work toward them? As always, I’d love to connect.
